【a^vajjana 】 'advertence' of the mind towards the object, forms the first stage in the process of consciousness (s. vin~n~a^na-kicca). If an object of the 5 physical senses is concerned, it is called 'five-door advertence' (pan~ca dva^ra^vajjana); in the case of a mental object, 'mind-door advertence' (mano-dva^ra^vajjana).
