【atta kilamatha 】 'self-mortification', is one of the two extremes to be avoided, the other extreme being addiction to sensual pleasures (ka^ma-sukha), whilst the Noble 8-fold Path constitutes the Middle Path (majjhima-patipada^, q.v.).
